THE PRACTICAL FOUNDATION

Capacity and output solve different problems

Watt-hours describe stored energy and help estimate runtime. Watts describe how much power the station can deliver at once. A unit can have enough stored energy for a full workday but still be unsuitable if an appliance exceeds its continuous or surge output.

Real runtime is lower than nominal capacity because the inverter, temperature and standby electronics consume energy. Use measured loads and preserve reserve for safety-critical use.
